On Jan. 19, community members gathered at Lory Student Center’s Grand Ballroom to paint a mural inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr. as part of the MLK Day Celebration.

The Fort Collins Mural Project and CSU organized the event to foster unity — the mural features hands holding hearts that signify a shared dream for equal opportunity.

Former Fort Collins resident Hattie McDaniel, an actress, has been nominated for USA TODAY's Women of the Year 2026, and nominations remain open for other Colorado women.

CSU professor Stephan Weiler co-founded REDI@CSU to help rural communities through monthly economic reports offering region-specific strategies.

He devoted 40+ years to closing the urban-rural information gap and mentoring students, leaving a lasting legacy in local economic development.
