CRIME NEWS

  • Fort Collins Police Services leads the investigation after the Critical Incident Response Team was activated at Larimer County Jail when a deputy found a 44-year-old inmate unresponsive in his locked cell on March 24 at 6:15 p.m.—jail staff administered first aid and transported him to a local hospital with serious injuries.  North Forty News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CSU student government candidate Jakye Nunley launched his campaign on March 25 on the Administration Building steps with running mate Joseph Godshall — formally declaring their bids for president and vice president. The duo, known for their extensive ASCSU experience, focused on increasing transparency and affordability — and they will continue campaigning until the April 7 election.  Colorado State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of Timberline Road in south Fort Collins will close from Majestic Drive to Carpenter Road from Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4 for asphalt overlay work—traffic will be detoured on Lemay Avenue while access to residences and businesses is maintained.  The Coloradoan
  • Larimer County will open the 1,847-acre Chimney Hollow Open Space in 2027, 5 miles southwest of Loveland, offering hiking, boating, swimming, and day-use amenities around Chimney Hollow Reservoir. The county’s plan includes a dam nearing its final 350-foot height (currently almost 320 feet tall) and crews will finish construction this summer before filling the reservoir in July.  The Coloradoan
  • People with low-level outstanding warrants in Larimer County will be able to clear them without arrest at an event and resource fair in Loveland on Saturday, April 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Loveland County Court building at 810 E. 10th St.  The Coloradoan
  • CSU’s Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere faces hiring freezes and project delays after 1,029 NOAA employees were laid off on March 11th — the cuts are raising concerns about weakened hurricane and tornado warning systems. University leaders and state lawmakers have called for an investigation into the budget cuts, warning that such reductions could endanger public safety.  Colorado State University
