Larimer County, Fort Collins, and the State of Colorado have partnered to hire a contractor who will plug and restore 50 aging oil wells—ten in Fort Collins—using a $5.2 million Orphan Well Program grant.
The cleanup, aimed at improving public health and air quality, will continue through 2028.
