- ➤ The City of Fort Collins will host an open house on April 24 at the Senior Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to collect community input on renovating the tennis complex and playground at Rolland Moore Community Park — the improvements are funded by the 2050 Sales Tax Initiative and part of the Parks Infrastructure Replacement Program Plan — ensuring planned updates reflect local needs. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Platte River Power Authority has partnered with Weld Energy Storage (a NextEra Energy Resources subsidiary) to develop its first large-scale battery energy storage project that will store up to 400 megawatt-hours of energy and support a 100 megawatt output for more than four hours. The project, located next to its largest solar project in Severance and linking to a new substation, will see construction begin early next year with a long-term energy storage agreement taking effect in late 2026. - ➤ Devon McCormick, a 22-year-old man from Greeley, faced charges at the Larimer County Justice Center in Fort Collins on April 10th—he is accused of two counts of attempted sexual assault and two counts of aggravated sexual contact, both class 3 felonies, as well as three counts of indecent exposure through masturbation. - ➤ On April 9, 2025, around 8:15 a.m., deputies responded to calls about an armed man at a home on North Whitcomb Street where Yonic Mendoza-Sanchez broke in, stole a shotgun, and climbed onto the roof—he possibly fired one round and was quickly arrested with no injuries reported. North Forty News

- ➤ Homeowners in Colorado who were turned down by three insurers got a new option when the FAIR Plan website launched Thursday, April 10th, and it began accepting applications for personal property insurance. Officials said insurance agents will soon get access to the system—so they can provide quick quotes—and that applications for commercial properties are expected later this year. CBS Colorado

- ➤ Governor Jared Polis signed a bill on Thursday that gives Colorado one of the strictest gun laws in the nation and requires two background checks, a sheriff’s permit, and certified weapons training for buying certain semi-automatic guns. The law bans rapid-fire conversion devices and will apply to new transactions starting in August 2026. CBS Colorado
