CRIME NEWS
- ➤ District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin ruled that Sergeant Samuel Roth acted in self-defense when he shot Keith Williams during a March 10 incident at Edora Park in Fort Collins—Williams, who retrieved a revolver after a mini dirt bike chase and aimed it at Deputy Jason Hart, now faces multiple charges. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Colorado State University, the Associated Students Senate met on April 9 and discussed proposals on student funding, emergency room procedures and sustainable living in Fraternity and Sorority Life. The senate passed a bill to fund a travel grant by unanimous consent while rejecting a sustainable living council measure by a 9–13–10 vote— they will resume meetings on April 16. - ➤ John Matsushima changed cattle feeding methods at CSU by developing a steam flaking corn process that helped cattle gain weight faster and improved meat quality in Colorado and abroad (he is 104 and still visits his office monthly). His research laid the foundation for modern feedlots that boost farmer efficiency and guide studies in sustainable animal nutrition (his work continues to inspire new techniques today). - ➤ CSU Flower Trial Gardens at 1401 Remington Street remain a hub for research and learning as students and locals explore new plant trials and sustainable garden options. Chad Miller, the director since January 2023, said the gardens continue to attract community interest and support ongoing horticulture research. Colorado State University
- ➤ The Colorado Basic Needs Summit took place on April 9 at CSU Spur in Denver, where Associated Students at Colorado State University brought together six nonprofits & 13 colleges to discuss student food, housing and health care access. - ➤ Colorado State University’s rodeo team hosted the 75th annual Skyline Stampede from April 4th to 6th where colleges from the Central Rocky Mountain Region competed in team roping, barrel racing and steer wrestling. The team worked early to care for their horses and set up the arena while coaches aimed to grow the sport in the coming years. Colorado State University
