  • Junior League of Fort Collins will close its Career Closet on May 31 after 15 years of serving women—rising rent and fewer donations forced the change—and will shift its efforts to expanding the Hunger Initiative and partnering on city projects.  The Coloradoan

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a man’s burning body was found under a bridge in Poudre Canyon on April 11 and later identified as a 49-year-old from Greeley, with Isaac Valdez-Salvador — who was injured while fleeing — now in the hospital and Juana Espino held without bond as they face charges in Weld County.  North Forty News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CSU's occupational therapy department ranked third on U.S. News' list for top health schools for 2025, rising from seventh in 2024 and trailing Boston University and USC. The program uses community-based learning and early fieldwork with hospitals and clinics to give students practical experience + prepare them for work in the community.  Colorado State University
  • The Restorative Justice Club at CSU held biweekly meetings focused on conflict resolution and community building as part of the ETST 265—Culture of Care in Schools course taught by Adjunct Professor Tom Cavanagh. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters from the Poudre Fire Authority and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office contained a wildfire that burned 17 acres near Laporte on April 22—no injuries or structural damage occurred and one citation was issued for the accidental cause. Emergency vehicles remain in the area for post-fire monitoring.  North Forty News
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife warned Fort Collins residents that bear activity is rising this spring as 82 sightings have been reported in 17 counties so far—residents should secure bird feeders, trash, compost, and pet food to prevent bears from becoming habituated to human food sources.  North Forty News

  • State lawmakers are drafting a plan to allocate millions for Colorado's safety net providers— the proposal will boost support for services that help residents in need.  CBS Colorado
  • Platte River Power Authority began low-flying aerial surveys over Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland on Wednesday, April 23, flying at 1,500 feet to collect data for future transmission line maintenance—weather permitting. Residents may notice the aircraft but should know it will not affect local services.  North Forty News
  • Rep. Lauren Boebert asked DOGE to pull funding for future passenger rail service along the Front Range, a move that may affect planned regional transportation upgrades.  CBS Colorado
