EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado State University students mentor local youth facing challenges through the Campus Connections Therapeutic Youth Mentoring program, which meets weekly in the Gifford Building for training, academic support, and shared meals provided by the local food bank—aimed at improving attendance, behavior, and well-being. The program offers three credits for participating students and prepares them for future careers with stress on hands-on, trauma-informed care.  Colorado State University
  • The Hub for Student Services—a new office on the bottom level of the Lory Student Center—will have a soft launch in May to give students faster access to financial aid and housing services. Experienced staff like director Jessica Rodriguez—who brings 11 years of expertise—will help expand these merged services to serve all Rams next fall.  Colorado State University
  • At its 28th session, the student government senate voted on plans that include a rule to limit out-of-state tuition bumps to 4% next school year and new term limits for student leaders. The senate also talked about bills for better access, fair money rules and student rights before sending some measures to review, and it will meet again on April 30 (after committee reviews).  Colorado State University
  • On April 23, the Straayer Center for Public Service Leadership at CSU and Fort Collins officials held a workshop on ranked choice voting to prepare students for the election on Nov. 4. City clerk Delynn Coldiron explained how voters will rank candidates — with sample ballots and ice cream provided — to simplify the process for the upcoming mayoral and council races.  Colorado State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Platte River Power Authority made strong progress toward a 100% noncarbon energy future as its board accepted the 2024 Annual Report on April 24 — the report showed plans to add over three million megawatt-hours of renewable energy by 2030. The utility also announced new wind and solar contracts, grid upgrades, and a Larimer County permit approval for five new turbines at the Rawhide Energy Station near Fort Collins.  North Forty News

  • CSU softball ended its final home game of the season with a 10—2 loss to Fresno State Sunday and honored its five graduating seniors—Brooke Bohlender, Carolina Buffaloe, Jordan West, Morgan Crosby, and Morgan Coleman—who caught ceremonial pitches from their fathers in a farewell tribute.  Colorado State University
  • After winning a Mountain West Championship last season, the Rams will face a fall season with many changes as nine new players join through transfers and incoming freshmen. Sophomore Maria Brun, who had 156 kills in 101 sets as a freshman, will lead the team and adjust to a faster U.S. style of play—she aims to win conference and make a run in the NCAA Tournament.  Colorado State University
