CULTURE NEWS

  • Canyon Concert Ballet (a nearly 50-year local tradition) is closing due to financial struggles. Its board said it will hold performances through May 31 if $220,000 is raised, or programming may end on May 1.  The Coloradoan

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Colorado Department of Education honored 20 PSD schools on April 28 at the Denver Art Museum—McGraw Elementary and Fort Collins Montessori each earning two awards while 18 additional schools were recognized for academic achievement and student growth during the 2024-25 school year.  The Coloradoan

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Fort Collins residents can drop off old computers and monitors for free at Intel, 4701 Technology Parkway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A household hazardous waste collection event will be held on May 16 at 625 Ninth St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The Coloradoan
  • Larimer County added 70 acres to Red-Tail Ridge Open Space along the Boulder border—this new parcel cost $650,000 and will help form a continuous conservation area while plans to open it to the public remain in progress.  The Coloradoan
  • Timed-entry permits for Rocky Mountain National Park open May 1 at 8 a.m. MT for reservations from May 22 through Oct. 13, with options for the Bear Lake Road Corridor or the rest of the park. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Collins Utilities announced that starting May 1, peak electricity hours will be 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays through September, when rates will be over three times higher than off-peak pricing.  The Coloradoan
  • Fort Collins Utilities and ELCO asked residents and businesses to reduce outdoor water use starting May 1 amid a water shortage watch declared by City Manager Kelly DiMartino (lawn watering is limited to twice a week and watering should be avoided between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.).  The Coloradoan
  • Colorado's Front Range Passenger Rail signed a 25-year agreement with BNSF to run three daily round trips between Fort Collins and Denver by January 2029. The project costs $333 million + will incur over $30 million annually, paving the way for efficient regional travel.  The Coloradoan
