The Fort Collins land known as the former Hughes Stadium holds a long legacy—its future remains undecided as local officials review options.

The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department will host Kids in the Park, a free event at Twin Silo Community Park (5552 Ziegler Road) on Friday, July 25 from 4-7 p.m. Co-presented with Elevations Credit Union, the event will offer hands-on recreation activities, lawn games, food trucks, live music, bounce houses and more at a 54-acre park with community gardens and a large playground.

On Tuesday afternoon at the 2400 block of County Road 9, fire crews responded to a CSU property blaze that burned a structure and one acre of land while protecting additional buildings + an eagle’s nest, and investigators are examining the cause with no link to a separate CSU fire + an earlier incident.

A wildfire mitigation project has started near Cameron Pass in the Colorado State Forest to remove dead trees—using a helicopter and tethered logging—to protect Fort Collins and Walden's water supply.

Temporary closures are in effect at parts of State Forest State Park and visitors are advised to check trail conditions during the work, which will continue until October with more logging planned in spring.
