Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 9th of August.
Good morning, Fort Collins.
A Fort Collins police sergeant was ruled legally justified in shooting a man during a June domestic violence call—he shot the suspect armed with a kitchen knife who refused to obey commands—and the suspect now faces six counts of menacing and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
Chimney Hollow dam near Loveland is nearly finished as crews topped off its 350 foot dam and paved a closed roadway on top.
Northern Water found high uranium in the dam’s rocks and will decide whether to treat or dilute the water before filling the reservoir in two months — a decision that may delay sending water downstream by six months to multiple years.
Larimer County has approved a $15 million project to upgrade parking, roads, and access at Horsetooth and Carter Lake reservoirs.
Construction at Horsetooth will begin in August and is set to finish in 2027 — while work at Carter Lake is underway and expected to complete in 2026.
Chimney Hollow Dam, the tallest built in the United States in 20 years, is nearly complete.
Construction crews finished the 350-foot structure and are now paving a roadway — which will not be open to the public.
Heartside Hill opened on Aug.7 in southeast Fort Collins and now offers 72 affordable rental units with a community building on an 11-acre site.
The project — a partnership of Heart of the Rockies Christian Church, CARE Communities, Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity and L’Arche Fort Collins — will soon add single-family homes, shared homes for people with disabilities and an early childhood education center.
