COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A nonprofit purchased a warehouse and lot in Wellington in April—marking a key step toward a permanent food pantry and resource center—and the site will be developed as a community service hub in the future.  The Coloradoan
  • The City of Fort Collins, Poudre River Public Library District, and Poudre School District submitted an amendment request for the new southeast community center that will have aquatics, a full-service library, community rooms, licensed childcare, and a gymnasium—on soil and geothermal testing will start soon near Fossil Ridge High School with construction planned for 2026 and a target completion in 2028.  City of Fort Collins

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 15, Sergeant Randall Klamser was ruled justified for shooting 45-year-old Eugene Reinersman at 767 Eastdale Drive after an armed domestic disturbance escalated when Reinersman ignored warnings while holding a large kitchen knife—he survived and now faces multiple charges.  North Forty News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Poudre School District announced plans to release elementary and middle school students two hours early on Thursday and Friday due to heat risks—forecasts near 100 degrees—while high schools and mountain campus schools will follow their regular schedules.  CBS Colorado

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chris O’Dell, a scientist at Colorado State University, said two carbon satellites that help track pollution will lose funding next year because of federal budget cuts, and his team must plan for their shutdown. He said OCO-3 on the space station will be turned off and OCO-2 will be brought down—steps that could hurt important climate research.  CBS Colorado
  • Fire restrictions are in place on Front Range forest lands including at sites in Larimer County—only fires in approved fire rings are allowed and violations may lead to fines or jail time. Visitors near Fort Collins should use proper fire rings if camping to help prevent wildfires.  The Coloradoan
  • Wild rabbits in Fort Collins have developed horn-like growths caused by rabbit papillomas, a virus spread by insects and direct contact. Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the condition poses little risk to people, though it may affect a rabbit's ability to see or eat—domestic rabbits may need veterinary care.  The Coloradoan
