ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 18, kids spotted smoke and alerted an adult, leading firefighters to arrive at 3:25 p.m. at the 1400 block of Winfield Street in Fort Collins where they quickly extinguished a house fire while rescuing Gatsby (the family dog) from the basement.  North Forty News
  • Poudre Fire Authority responded Monday evening to a garage fire in southeast Fort Collins triggered by a malfunctioning lithium-ion battery—firefighters extinguished the flames and the Hazmat Team disposed of the battery safely as residents are urged to use proper charging methods.  North Forty News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incoming CSU first-year students are encouraged to explore Fort Collins on free buses and through events like the Food Truck Rally and First Friday Art Walk — local activities that help them connect with their new home.   • Colorado State University is modernizing historic campus buildings and student housing to update aging facilities for enhanced learning; Allison Hall closed in May for renovations and will reopen in the 2027—28 academic year while Clark A and Clark B are set to reopen in 2026 and 2027 respectively, and Prospect Plaza apartments are scheduled for a two-year remodel with leases ending July 31.   • The city of Fort Collins will spray for mosquitoes in west Fort Collins on August 21, weather permitting, using fogging trucks along a route from Overland Trail to Shields Street between Laporte Avenue and Trilby Road.   • Boise State, Colorado State and Utah State filed an updated lawsuit against Mountain West and Commissioner Gloria Nevarez on August 7, accusing the conference of withholding funds and misrepresenting exit fee terms amid realignment while contesting Grand Canyon’s accelerated entry—Fresno State and San Diego State were not part of the suit due to state restrictions.
