COMMUNITY NEWS

  • C.A.N.S. Around The Oval 2025 is underway at CSU as it marks its 39th year of collecting donations for the Food Bank and Rams Against Hunger—teams from CSU colleges, local schools and community groups will compete until Collection Day Oct. 15 while expanding education on food insecurity through CANversations.  Colorado State University

  • The DCPA will launch its Broadway season in less than two weeks with the musical comedy Shucked — a family-friendly show about a small town overcoming adversity — that promises to draw local interest.  CBS Colorado

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On September 24, the CSU Associated Students Senate met to ratify election manager Emily Arnow and election engagement officer Celina Mora and to discuss a bill funding human anatomy resources and one supporting an AAUP initiative—efforts that aimed to boost student services and cross-branch collaboration. The senate approved both positions unanimously and will resume its session on Oct. 1 to continue reviewing the measures.  Colorado State University
  • On Sept. 24, Jordan Kraft Lambert, director of CSU Spur Ag Innovation Center, spoke at Ram Talks at the Fort Collins Welcome Center to explain how ag tech—ranging from robotics and data to biological solutions—helps farmers feed the community and protect wildlife and water resources while modern practices have become more efficient.  Colorado State University
  • Colorado State University students have formed the Knife and Manufacturing Arts Learning Club — known as KAMAL — to explore hands-on engineering projects and industrial safety beyond typical coursework. Founded by mechanical engineering undergraduates Logan Anderson and Beau Berman, the club will start meetings in October to let students gain real-world advice and creative project experience.  Colorado State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Collins launched a pilot program that offers discounted composting services for residents and businesses at prices as low as $5 per month—funded by plastic bag fees and managed by Compost Queen. The city hopes to divert up to 165 tons of food waste from landfills and lower greenhouse gas emissions as part of its zero waste goal.  The Coloradoan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Collins will use ranked choice voting in its upcoming Nov 4 municipal elections for mayor and city council seats in Districts 1 and 3, and the current mayor, Jeni Arndt, is not running for reelection. Voters approved the change with 58% support in 2022, and the new system will let people rank candidates to avoid a runoff—fostering a fairer election process.  Colorado State University

  • Colorado State University's Movement Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Laboratory is conducting an I-Drive study that uses driving patterns to detect early signs of Alzheimer’s.
