The annual Downtown Holiday Lighting Ceremony will take place on November 7 in Old Town Square (with live music by Guerilla Fanfare Brass Band from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and a short ceremony at 6:30 p.m. as the lights turn on) to kickoff the holiday season.
Street closures (beginning at 3:30 p.m.) will help manage the expected heavy traffic around the event area.
Students allege that after CSU ended its volunteer program in 2024, its red-eared slider Bruno—known as Mr. Turtle—was left in low, unclean water and later moved to Colorado Gator Farm; the university insists he was well cared for and moved to a large, certified habitat.
Advocates are pressing CSU to adopt clearer policies and track care for non-research animals.
