ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Collins will not reach its 100% zero waste goal for 2030 since it diverted only 51.5% of its waste in 2021. City officials say new recycling programs, a pilot contract with Compost Queen, and a food waste campaign are in play to keep reducing landfill output — all while depending on community support.  Colorado State University
  • Colorado was named the No. 3 best state for viewing the Beaver Supermoon due to its high altitude and dark skies — factors that will make the full moon appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter — and tomorrow evening skywatchers will get a rare view as the moon rises after sunset.  North Forty News

  • Madelyn Bragg, a 6 ft 3 in senior from Aberdeen, South Dakota, joined Colorado State women’s basketball and is expected to boost the team’s interior play as it gears up for its final Mountain West season—she averaged 16.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at Division II’s Northern State.  Colorado State University
  • CSU men’s basketball will start a new era under head coach Ali Farokhmanesh as the team rebuilds a roster missing key players lost to transfers, NBA opportunities, and graduation & adding new transfers and returning veterans to build depth and chemistry for the upcoming season.   • CSU men’s basketball beat Incarnate Word 98—64 on Monday night at Moby Arena in head coach Ali Farokhmanesh’s debut. The team shot 60% from the field and recorded 22 assists on 29 made shots—transfer Brandon Rechsteiner scored 19 points and added six assists; they will play Omaha on Sunday.  Colorado State University
  • CSU football is rebuilding after injuries, a coaching change, and the loss of a key quarterback—preparing to face UNLV on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Canvas Stadium.
