Nerd Nite Fort Collins S2026E11

About this event

Two speakers. One night. A suspicious amount of flour. This month at Wolverine Farm Publick House we are giving the evening over to baked goods — and to the people who could not leave them alone.

Tickets are $8, or $4 for students, Check in starts at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm.

Note on accessibility : We take our mission to deliver fun, nerdy content to all very seriously. The upstairs space where we have the show is only accessible by stairs. We are working with Wolverine Farm and partners to improve access. It is a big undertaking as you may imagine. In the interim, we can offer remote viewing downstairs. Please indicate your accessibility requirements when purchasing your ticket.

Talk 1:

Bake First, Ask Questions Later

by: Kaj Sennelöv

My first sourdough went straight into the bin, and in hindsight it was probably fine. Since then I've baked countless of loaves, started new starters in Belgium, Canada and in Norway, and I've found out they're a lot harder to kill than I feared. I'm no expert, just someone who has made plenty of mistakes with flour and water, and I'll share the highs, the lows, and the loaves that deserved better. Expect a little bit of science, a few confessions, and possibly the argument that I should have baked first and asked questions later.

Talk 2:

Finding the beauty and comedy of data in everything: what I learned about Croissants

by: Jordan Sorokin

I love croissants. And I love data. Somehow I managed to marry the two. If you are also a fan of flaky pastry and you've ever wondered how you could objectively measure them, this talk is for you.
