If you'd like a train from Fort Collins to Denver, Tuesday night's returns leaned your way. Ballot Issue 7A was ahead 453,474 votes to 368,746 as of 10:25 p.m., Westword reported from the Secretary of State's office, though it called the count too close to officially call. BizWest says the tax won't be assessed on food, gasoline, residential electricity and gas, prescription drugs or medical supplies.

The starter line north of Denver, paid for by RTD and CDOT, is set for three daily round trips in 2029 either way. A yes vote would add a fourth trip to Fort Collins, plus service south to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Sal Pace, general manager of the , called the result "historic" in a statement.

  • Tax rate: 0.333%, about 33 cents per $100 spent
  • Southern service to Pueblo: proposed to begin in 2032
  • Eventual frequency: 10 daily round trips north, eight south

The 7A tax is projected to raise about $295 million a year

The delay comes with a huge caveat: the town must commit to paying for construction of a new school that the district would own and operate. The Coloradoan reports some residents question that demand. Three doors down, the owner of the Hidden Stem plant and flower shop says she's noticed an added "pep in the step" around town.

  • Town's plan: fund a new building or rebuild the existing school
  • Who runs it: Poudre School District would own and operate it
